NOTES FROM JANUARY 3 MEETING After meeting an adorable little puppy, Juanita, we got right down to work! We decided to try to narrow our topic to one. After some brainstorming, we decided that we could focus on stray/roaming animals and within that topic, could tackle a number of other topics at the same time such as:
Abuse
Safety
Wildlife
Dog fighting
Responsible breeding/overpopulation
Responsible guardianship/preventing the loss of companion animals
Animal testing
Disease transmission
We decided on a goal concerning roaming/stray animals: "To educate people about the consequences of letting their animals roam and persuade them to keep them under control/contained." It was suggested that providing pre-/post-tests might be a good way to see if we have reached our goal and it was decided to think abou those things after we develop our strategy. Some ideas that came up to acheive that goal was:
Create pamphlets for adopters
Educate people about the dangers/possible consequences of letting animals outside
TO DO: RESEARCH! We assigned topics to each person in attendance at the meeting to research the different sub-topics of the roaming/stray animal issue. Please look into the problems for animals associated to each issue and suggestions that people/organizations have as to what we can do to help animals and bring back that information to the group so we can discuss how we can use that information to help us come up with a strategy. Strays: Alyssa Safety: Anna, Mariah Wildlife: Naomi Responsible Breeding/Overpopulation: Julia, Alisha Responsible Guardianship/Preventing the loss of your animal: Ciera Dog Fighting: Clifton, Betsy Animal Testing: Sophie, Julia Disease Transmission: Lilly, Becca
Thank you all again for your enthusiasm and commitment to animals in our community! See you at our next meeting on Tuesday, January 17 at 4p.m.!
